Pre-Installation Requirements

Before installation, ensure you have the necessary space, tools, and utilities.

  1. Location: Level floor, away from heat sources, with adequate ventilation.
  2. Dimensions: Verify cutout dimensions match manufacturer specifications.
  3. Electrical: Dedicated 115V, 60Hz, 15-amp grounded outlet.
  4. Water Supply: Cold water line with shut-off valve and proper tubing.
  5. Tools Required: Level, tape measure, adjustable wrench, screwdrivers.

WARNING! This appliance is heavy. Use two or more people to move and install. Ensure floor can support the weight.

Installation Steps

Follow these steps for proper installation of your GE PSS93YPFS refrigerator.

  1. Remove Packaging: Carefully remove all tape, adhesive, and packaging materials.
  2. Position Refrigerator: Slide unit into prepared space, leaving recommended clearances.
  3. Level the Unit: Adjust front leveling legs until refrigerator is perfectly level side-to-side and front-to-back.
  4. Connect Water Supply: Attach water line to inlet valve at rear (see Section 7).
  5. Plug In: Connect power cord to dedicated outlet.
  6. Install Door Handles: Attach handles according to included instructions.
  7. Final Check: Ensure doors open and close freely, and unit is stable.

CAUTION! Do not install near an oven, radiator, or other heat source. Maintain minimum clearances for air circulation.

Controls and Settings

The control panel is located on the exterior dispenser face. Use touchpad controls to adjust settings.

Primary Controls: Power, Temperature (Fridge/Freezer), Ice Maker On/Off, Filter Reset, Lock, Sabbath Mode, Energy Saver.

Temperature Settings: Fridge: 34°F to 46°F; Freezer: -5°F to 5°F. Allow 24 hours for temperatures to stabilize after initial setup.

Special Modes:
Sabbath Mode: Disables interior lights, display, and door alarms.
Energy Saver: Reduces anti-condensation heater operation.
Lock: Locks control panel to prevent accidental changes.

Connecting Water Supply

For ice maker and water dispenser operation, a cold water supply is required.

  1. Turn off main water supply.
  2. Connect a 1/4" O.D. copper tubing or GE-approved plastic water line to the cold water pipe using a saddle valve or standard shut-off valve.
  3. Route the water line to the refrigerator location, avoiding kinks.
  4. Connect the water line to the water inlet valve at the rear bottom of the refrigerator. Hand-tighten the compression nut.
  5. Turn on water supply and check for leaks at all connections.
  6. Flush the line by dispensing water for 3 minutes into a container.

Tip: Use only materials approved for potable water. Do not use plastic tubing from previous installations if it shows signs of wear.

Initial Setup & Calibration

After installation and water connection, perform initial setup.

  1. Plug in the refrigerator. The interior lights and control panel should illuminate.
  2. Set temperatures: Recommended initial settings are 37°F for fridge and 0°F for freezer.
  3. Activate ice maker: Lift the wire signal arm to the "ON" (up) position.
  4. Reset water filter indicator: Press and hold the "Filter Reset" button for 3 seconds.
  5. Allow 24 hours for the unit to reach set temperatures and produce the first batch of ice.
  6. Load food items, avoiding blocking air vents inside the compartments.

WARNING! Do not load large quantities of warm food at once, as this affects temperature stability.

Door & Drawer Adjustment

Doors and crisper drawers are adjustable for proper alignment and seal.

Door Alignment: If doors are not sealing evenly, adjust the leveling legs at the front. Turn clockwise to raise, counterclockwise to lower.

Drawer Slides: Crisper drawers can be removed for cleaning by lifting the front and pulling out. Realign tracks when reinserting.

Door Bin Adjustment: Door bins can be repositioned by pressing the release lever and sliding to desired height.

Care & Cleaning

Regular cleaning maintains appearance and performance.

  1. Exterior: Wipe with a soft cloth dampened with mild soap and water. Dry thoroughly.
  2. Interior: Remove shelves and bins. Clean with baking soda solution (2 tbsp per quart water). Rinse and dry.
  3. Dispenser Area: Wipe with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  4. Condenser Coils: Vacuum coils at the rear or bottom front grille every 6-12 months.
  5. Water Filter: Replace every 6 months or as indicated by the filter status light.

CAUTION! Unplug refrigerator before cleaning interior or moving it. Never use harsh chemicals, abrasives, or steam cleaners.
